‘Ninky’ Williams will deliver better for the people in Number Six, says PM Harris
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 27, 2020 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister and National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, has paid a glowing tribute to Team Unity’s candidate for St. Christopher Six in the June 5 General Election, Mr Kevin ‘Ninky’ Williams of the PLP who he said will deliver better for the people.
“Kevin Williams is the man for the future,” said Prime Minister Harris when he addressed a Team Unity virtual public meeting on Tuesday evening May 26 where Civil Engineer Mr Kevin ‘Ninky’ Williams was officially launched. “He knows how to build – he is an engineer. He will build and he will deliver better for the people.”
Constituency Number Six has since 1989 been represented by Dr Denzil Douglas who was Prime Minister from 1995 to February 2015 after Labour Party lost to Team Unity, and Dr the Hon Timothy Harris became the third Prime Minister. Dr Douglas was in March this year ordered to vacate his parliamentary seat by the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court of Appeal, but will be contesting the seat in the June 5 General Election.
“The people of Number Six have to move forward,” noted Dr Harris. “I am satisfied that in Kevin ‘Ninky’ Williams we have a good man – a strong and a loyal man who will remain grounded with the people of Number Six, and the people of St. Paul’s. Come the 5th of June, I am counting on you to give me that wonderful pleasant surprise. Give me that surprise – deliver Number Six to the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) and we will take you forward to a better future. Give that surprise to the people.”
The Team Unity virtual public meeting was chaired by the Minister of Tourism, the Hon Lindsay Grant who will be defending his St. Christopher Four seat. All the Team Unity candidates from St. Kitts were in attendance. Also endorsing the candidacy of Mr Williams at the meeting were Minister of Public Infrastructure the Hon Ian Patches Liburd, and Deputy Prime Minister the Hon Shawn Richards.
In making a direct appeal to the young people of St. Christopher Six, Prime Minister Harris said: “Kevin ‘Ninky’ Williams represents a new optimistic future for you the young men and young women of St. Paul’s and of St. Christopher Number Six. For all these year you have been faithful to Papa Bradshaw and our entire country is proud of his contribution and of his service on behalf of the people, particularly at a trying time, but Bradshaw is gone.”
He advised that the youthful Mr Kevin Williams, an engineer and businessman who was born and raised in St. Paul, had come forward and said that he could do a better job and that he could help the young people of St. Paul’s make a success of their lives.
Mr Kevin Williams rose to prominence in 2017 after the passage of Hurricane Maria in September when he led the team that restored Old Road bay road after it was blocked by falling rocks and debris forcing persons in the area from Old Road and back to Sandy Point and Newton Ground to travel to Basseterre via St. Pauls and Cayon.
The Honourable Prime Minister thanked the people of Number Six for having the courage to see at this time in history that they must lend their vote to somebody new, assuring them that if they lend Kevin ‘Ninky’ Williams their votes, they would also be lending them to him. He added that if they do so on June 5, he would ensure that the Team Unity candidate delivers for them because a vote for ‘Ninky’ Williams is a vote for the whole Team Unity.
“We love the people of Number Six, and that is why we found a good man, a strong man and a man from the heartland of Labour who understands the struggles of a Labour Movement – the struggles of poor people,” said Dr Harris. “We are asking you then, to make a change for your own good. We are asking you to make a change to improve the quality of life.”
