Prime Minister Hon Allen Chastanet has responded to criticism that he personally flouts COVID-19 protocols around the island, saying that he does not create one standard for himself and another for everyone else.
Speaking to reporters ahead of parliament Tuesday morning, Chastanet said, “I always try to adhere, to the best of my ability, to protocols. So if someone wants to take a picture of me going to the bar and having a drink and pulling down my mask, I can assure you that there will always be an occasion where you’re going to find me doing that. But to say to you that I’m out flaunting, and deliberately disobeying the protocols, I don’t think that that’s the case.”
The prime minister spoke to one particular time when he wore a visor with no mask, saying that at the time he had been told a visor was sufficient. He said that once the CMO told him that was not the case, he immediately resolved the issue.
“So I can say to you, I do not deliberately, in any way try to flaunt or create one standard for myself and one standard for everybody else,” said Chastanet.
