Just over 1,000 more people are on their way to becoming fully vaccinated against COVID-19, having completed their vaccination regime.
The Ministry of Health in its clinical update on Sunday noted that 551,791 people have now completed their COVID-19 vaccination.
Just 545 more received a first dose of a two-dose vaccine regime in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people partially vaccinated against COVID-19 to 617,974.
Unfortunately, six more people succumbed to the virus: two elderly men, one middle aged man and three middle aged women. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 1,645.
Of the fatalities, four people had multiple comorbidities including a mix of diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, leukemia and heart disease. Two people had high blood pressure and morbid obesity.
The Ministry noted that there were 244 new cases, bringing the number of active virus cases to 4,656, and overall positive cases to 55,681. The results are from samples taken between Wednesday and Saturday and not the last 24 hours only.
These new patients will be processed for admission at the discretion of the CMOHs.
Some 314 people remain at hospital, with 11 in the ICU and 15 in the HDU at the Couva Hospital and Multi Training Facility. Thirty one patients are at step down facilities while 61 are in state quarantine.
Based on data available up until October 6, 94.2 per cent of the patients receiving care in the COVID-19 care system are not fully vaccinated.
The Ministry noted that the number of people recovered from the virus is now 49,380. Some 29 people have been discharged from public health facilities, while there have been 142 recovered community cases.
Recovered community cases refer to those who were previously COVID-19 positive and in self-isolation at home and subsequently met the discharge criteria and were released from self-isolation. A total of 4,067 are still in home isolation.
