Another COVID outbreak at Bordelais: 27 new cases at prison

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Friday, October 22, 2021, confirms a total of 54 new cases of COVID-19.

These cases were processed on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 272 samples which were collected between October 20 and October 21, 2021. This number of positive cases makes up 19.8% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in-country to date to 12,385.

Twenty-seven of the recorded cases are from the Bordelais Correctional Facility. In light of this recent development, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs remains in close contact with the management of the Bordelais Correctional Facility to conduct the required surveillance and public health guidelines to contain the spread of the virus at the institution.

The Ministry of Health also reports one new COVID-19 death. This death occurred on October 13, 2021. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in-country is 182 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 57.

COVID-19 death #182 is a 57-year-old male from the Castries district. The Ministry of Heath extends sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of this individual.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 44 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in-country to 422. Currently, one individual is critically ill and three individuals are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 36,564  individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 31,102 have received the second dose. A total of 13,370 individuals have received the first dose and 8,043 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations will continue tomorrow Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Vigie Sports Complex and the Vieux Fort Wellness Center Grounds. Vaccinations are scheduled for distribution at both sites from 9 am to 2 pm.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs will continue providing daily updates to the public as new information becomes available.
