CLARKE NAMED MAC WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

MAC TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK RELEASE

CLEVELAND, Ohio – University of Akron track and field junior Amya Clarke (Akron, Ohio) was tabbed by the Mid-American Conference as its Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

Clarke was honored by the league for the first time this season, while the Zips garnered weekly conference accolades for the fourth time in 2022.

Clarke recorded career-best times of 7.44 and 24.37, respectively, at the Akron Invitational on Feb. 5 to take the titles in the women’s 60 and 200 meters. Her effort in the women’s 60 meters stands as the second-fastest time in indoor program history and top effort in the MAC this season.

The Zips return to competition with a pair of weekend meets. The bulk of the squad will battle at the Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by Kent State on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12, while select members of the team will eye NCAA qualifying marks at the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Allendale, Mich., on Friday, Feb. 11.
