We have lost a steel band legend.
Melvin Hewlett or “Mellie” as he was affectionately called, was a leading light of the steelpan community having contributed 55 years to the art form as an outstanding player, arranger, tuner, composer and teacher.
It was just in November 2022, at the inaugural Sugar Mas Awards, Mellie was the recipient of the Sweet Strings Award for musical excellence and promotion of National Carnival.
We wish to express condolences to his family and the entire pan fraternity.
