ST. PETERS EARN THEIR FIRST POINT OF THE SEASON
Only one match was played in the SKNFA Premier League last week Friday night at the
Newtown playing field. Hobson Enterprises Garden Hotspurs and St. Peters FC played to a 1-1
draw. Shervin Allen scored for Spurs in the 30 th minute with his team dominating the first half.
But in the second half, St. Peters rose to the occasion and dominated possession, pressing for the
equalizer. In the end, Shevene Boston scored a stunning strike outside the area, giving St. Peters
a well-deserved equalizer. Spurs had a chance in the second half to retake the lead but missed the
opportunity. St. Peters coach Austin “Dico” Huggins, said he told his players at half-time, to
press the ball in the attacking third, in order to get back in the game.
“I asked them to be more tactical. We need to press more in the attacking third for Spurs to come
over the top, because we would be able to take them out of their game with that,” Huggins said,
adding that the change in tactics, resulted in a more competitive game.
Assistant Coach of Spurs Rohan Browne, said he was disappointed with the result. “Maybe the
players got a bit complacent. We were dominating the first half. After the goal, we had ample
chances…that’s something we have to address on the training pitch,” Browne lamented. The
result gives St. Peters their first point of the season.
TIQUANNY SHINES IN OLD ROAD DEMOLITION, VILLAGE SHOWS CHARACTER

Tiquanny’s four goals adds to the hat-trick he scored the previous week, making him the leading
goal scorer so far in the season. Assistant Manager of the Old Road team Azariah Vanterpool,
praised the team for their performance and lauded Tiquanny’s accomplishment. “Today I would
say they played a very good game. We started off a bit shaky but we started to play our own
game and in the end we came out victorious,” Vanterpool said. About Tiquanny, she said we
should expect more hat-tricks from him this season.
Meanwhile, Coach St. Clair Morris of Security Forces FC, said team preparation has been a
challenge. “We are still trying to get our team together in a sense…we had a few challenges with
player showing up for practice,” Morris said, adding that this has a lot to do with their work
commitments.
In the night’s other match SOL IAS Conaree FC blew an early 2-0 lead in the first half, to lose 3-
2 to Rams Village Superstars. All the goals were scored in the first half.

After the match Coach Stephen Clarke of Village hailed the character of his team, but said they
must start games much better. “If it’s one thing we preach about is staring the game slow. We
really want to cut that out,” Clarke said. “We can’t keep doing it every game, at some point in
time we have to come out in front.”
Conare’s coach Al Richards, while disappointed with the loss, believes his team played well.
“We start the game according to plan. We scored early, which we wanted, but we made three
defensive errors…and that was it from there,” Richards said. The result marks back-to-back
wins for Village, after a disappointing start to the season.
BATH GETS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON, ST. PAUL’S UNITED PREVAILS
Hotsprings Bath United got their first win of the season on Sunday in the SKNFA Premier
League, when they defeated Fast Cash Saddlers 1-0 at the Warner Park. Chris Browne scored in
the 49 th minute from a corner kick. Bath’s Coach Alex Claxton was obviously elated with getting
their first win of the season. “We are very, very happy. We worked really hard for this win and I
just want to congratulate the players in putting in the work in the course of the week and today it
paid off,” Claxon said. Saddlers Coach Samuel Phipps said while the team played better than last
week, there is still some work to do.
Meanwhile, defending champions S.L. Horsfords St. Paul’s United FC, came back from a slow
start to defeat Jones Group Sandy Point FC 3-1 in the second of Sunday’s double header.

Manager of St. Paul’s Austin Lewis, said even though they won, they are capable of playing
better. “I think we can do better; I think we displayed poor football today,” Lewis said.
Assistant Coach to Sandy Point Kenneth Douglas commended his players, despite the result.
Nevertheless, he believes the team has been making mistakes, which lead to defeat. “I think
that we are beating ourselves; so, we have to go back to the drawing board on the pitch and
commit to certain decisions,” Douglas said.
At the end of match week 3, Flow 4G Cayon Rockets, remain at the top of the table with nine
points from three matches. MFCR Old Road United Jets in second place, is the only team yet to
concede a goal.
CAYON TOP OF THE LEAGUE TABLE AFTER THREE MATCHES

After the match, Coach of Cayon, Al Edwards, said his team stuck to the game plan for most of
the match. “We got early chances, scoring just two out of three or four. At halftime, we just
wanted to be cautious, not too overly aggressive. Be careful, protect what you got,” he explained.
He said the strategy in the second half was to absorb pressure and try and get another goal. But
they had to change strategy as their main striker got injured. “It’s an overall good fight.
Sometimes you have to (win) ugly, sometimes it can’t go all your way but you have (the points)
and that’s what really matters,” he added.
Newtown’s Anthony Nets Isaac, said the team defended poorly in the first half, though they
responded well in the second half. “In the first half we allowed the game to get away from us
due to poor marking in the defensive area. But, we went in (at halftime) an came back and totally
dominated the second half of the game, it’s just that we didn’t get the goals we wanted,” Isaac
said. He said they will have to carry on the momentum into the next game and hope to get a
positive result. “In the second half we dominated Cayon so we have to take that and carry it into
the next game and hoping we don’t lose,” he said. The SKNFA Premier League continue with a
doubleheader at the St. Mary’s Park in Cayon on Friday.

After the match, Coach of Challengers Orrin Hughes, said the result was due to the work they
did in training, to bounce back from their opening defeat last week. “For the most parts, the
pressing of the ball, making the opponents cough it back up; we worked on that during the days
that we had (for training) along with our defensive principles,” Hughes said.
Morbille Fahie of Lodge, said they have to work on improving their shooting in order to get
better results. “We had a change in the team and I guess lack of preparedness for this match (led
to results) …we need to work on our attacking because we missed some important chances,” he
said, adding that they committed some individual and collective mistakes.

K. Liburd of Hard Times said while the result was not favorable, it gave them an idea of what
they need to work on to improve this season. “Mantab is a very good team. This our first game of
the season. New players are coming out so we figured out this is a trial…we are going to get
there,” Liburd said. “It’s a building process so we just have to take each game one at a time.”
Darren Huggins, Coach of Mantab said the effort of his players was good, considering this match
was like a warm up match for the team. “The performance wasn’t all that bad. We haven’t been
training as much but the efforts the guys put out was nice. This was like a warm up game,” he
said. SKNFA Division 1 continues this Thursday with matches at the Verchilds playing field.
