SPURS WIN THRILLER, CAYON AND SADDLERS DRAW BLANKS
It took a last-gasp goal to give Hobson Enterprises Garden Hotspurs a well-needed 2-1 win over Jones Group Sandy Point on Friday in the SKNFA Premier League at Warner Park. Incidentally, that result meant Sandy Point FC became the first team to be relegated from the Premier League this season. Geovannie Lake, a Spurs who is a student-athlete abroad, returned home and to the team with the two goals for the victory in the 69th min and 90+3 minute, while the lone goal from Sandy Point came in the 89th min.
Coach Steven Brown of Spurs hailed his players for putting their all into the match and had high commendations for Geovannie Lake. “I think the guys put their all in tonight. They really worked to the end. We welcome back Geovannie (Lake) this week, which was a welcome boost to our team and as you saw, he scored the goals to help us to victory,” Brown said.
A disappointed assistant coach for Sandy Point Kenneth Douglas said he was proud of his players. “I’m very, very proud of my team. They really played hard and came out today and they did exactly everything that we asked them to do. And unfortunately, we lost the game in the last minute of the game,” Douglas said. “We go back to the drawing board as usual. We deal with them on certain things and we’ll look at some videos of the other teams we will be playing against and then we create a plan and come out here and try to win as usual,” Douglas said.
In the first match of the night, Flow 4G Cayon Rockets drew 0-0 with Fast Cash Sadlers FC. Coach Samuel Phipps of Saddlers commented on the match. “I think that my team, we fought well tonight. Again, that goal eluded us… I think that the game was a one-goal game and unfortunately, we did not get that (goal); fortunately, Cayon didn’t get that, so we walk away with one point.
Cayon’s coach Al Edwards lamented his team’s failure to score. “I thought that it was a story of if you don’t score your chances, you can’t win a game. We had many, many chances to score…better chances and we chose otherwise. I said it last time and I have to say it again, we have to finish our crosses, headers, and breakaway shots on goal,” he said.
