CPL DONATES 1,000 TICKETS FOR CHILDREN AS PLANS TO DEEPEN THE PATRIOTS’ COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DEVELOPS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 22, 2023 (SKNIS): One thousand cricket student-athletes and other young people interested in the sport from St. Kitts and Nevis will have the opportunity to view some of the best players in the world during the St. Kitts leg of the 2023 Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 tournament (CPLT20).
The tickets for the 10 a.m. games on Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27, 2023, were presented to the Minister of Sports, the Honourable Samal Duggins, during a brief press engagement at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Five hundred tickets were donated for each of the two days.
Pete Russell, Chief Executive Officer of the CPLT20 made the presentation to Minister Duggins.
“It’s something that we think is very important to the development of the fanbase amongst the youth,” he said, noting that the initiative is being replicated in other CPL venues. “We’ve got the best players in the world and across the Caribbean playing here and if they (children) can experience cricket for the first time to watch these legends perform, I think that’s a great introduction.”
Honourable Duggins thanked Mr. Russell and the CPL team for the donation. He noted that fans are eagerly anticipating the home leg of the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots cricket team which begins on Wednesday, August 23 and ends on August 27, 2023. The minister added that negotiations are ongoing to have the players for the Patriots deepen their engagement with the community.
“In the near future, the team will be entrenched a lot more than ever before in the communities, in the schools, and [will] stamp their brand on not just cricket, but all sports in the Federation and I am looking forward to all of it,” Minister Duggins expressed.
