CEMSS HOSTS SUCCESSFUL SCIENCE CARREER FAIR

Basseterre, St. Kitts, Tuesday November 7, 2023: The Charles E. Mills Secondary School (CEMSS) held a highly successful Science Career Fair on Friday, November 3, 2023, under the theme “STEAM into the Future”. The Fair which ushered in Career Week 2023 from November 6 – 10, offered students a unique opportunity to explore various career options and gain insights into the professional world.

Mrs. Isha Jackson, Principal at CEMSS explained the importance of hosting the Career Fair. “We are excited to expose our students to careers in Science, careers in Technology, careers in Engineering, Art and Math. It is important for us as a nation to continue to expose our students to what is relevant in terms of careers in this century and beyond.”

Ms. Taylor, Science Teacher at CEMSS, gave insight into the different businesses that came to the Career Fair.

“On the school grounds we have many different businesses, we have SKELEC, Forensic Department, Fisheries, all just here to educate the children about the different career paths.” The Career Fair was a remarkable initiative designed to bridge the gap between education and employment. It featured a diverse range of professionals from various fields, including Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM). Students had the opportunity to interact with these professionals, ask questions, and gain insights into the skills and qualifications required for different career paths.

Ms. Patrice Harris, Corporate Communications Manager at SKELEC, explained why SKELEC was happy to be a part of the Career Fair.

“We come here to expose the children to the different careers that exist in SKELEC, mostly on the technical side as well as what is available in our administration division. It is our hope that by exposing the students to the different career opportunities that exist in SKELEC, we will be able to influence their career paths to get more interested in STEM. Let them know that it is something that is not always dirty. That it is very fulfilling, especially with what we do at SKELEC.”

The Career Fair at CEMSS serves as a testament to the commitment of educators and professionals in fostering the next generation of leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers. By bridging the gap between education and employment, the school is empowering its students to make informed choices and pursue their dreams with confidence.
