Dutch Quarter:— Police are busy investigating an incident in the Dutch Quarter where a 6-day-old baby was thrown over a balcony by the mother. 
According to information reaching SMN News the mother of the child is perceived to be a mental health patient but that has not been confirmed.

Police and ambulance personnel picked up the severely injured child and rushed to the St. Maarten Medical Center for further treatment.

SMN News learned that the mother identified J. Marlin as a bipolar patient who is treated at the Mental Health Foundation. Reliable information provided to SMN News states that the mother already has a pair of 6-year-old girls and just last week gave birth to another pair of girls, one of which she threw over the balcony. According to persons in the area, despite the mother’s illness, she lives alone with her children.

Police Spokesman Joe Josepha said detectives are currently investigating a very sad incident whereby a mother injured her child by throwing him over a balcony in the Dutch Quarter. The child was rushed to SMMC. With severe injuries. The mother has been arrested and is currently being treated by mental health.
