The Federal Cabinet of St. Kitts and Nevis has been informed that a property designated as a hotel is currently being utilized as residential apartments for students attending a local educational institution. It is to be noted that the developers of that project received construction and retrofitting concessions on the basis of its intention to operate as a hotel.

The hotel developer has been contacted and informed that this situation is unacceptable, as the hotel developer does not hold a business licence to operate apartments.

After consultation with senior officials from the local educational institution, the Cabinet has decided to allow the student tenants, who are in their first semester in St. Kitts, to remain in the units until August 2024, at the end of the current semester, to minimize disruption to their studies.

The Cabinet wishes the public to be aware of the Government’s commitment to upholding regulatory integrity, promoting offshore education, and protecting the interests of local landlords within our legal framework. The Cabinet urges all stakeholders to operate in accordance with the laws of St. Kitts and Nevis for the benefit of our nation.
