Spearheaded by the Honourable Senator and Minister responsible for Sustainable Development, Environment and Climate Action, and Constituency Empowerment, Dr. Joyelle Clarke, this pivotal legislation underscores St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable development. “The passage of this Bill marks a pivotal moment in our nation’s environmental policy,” Dr. Clarke stated. “It signifies our dedication to working alongside our Caribbean neighbours in mitigating the impacts of climate change and advancing sustainable development goals.”

The CCCCC, established by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), plays a crucial role in coordinating the region’s response to climate change. By formalising this agreement, Dr. Clarke said that St. Kitts and Nevis will enhance its capacity to access technical expertise, financial resources, and strategic initiatives designed to build climate resilience.

The Bill’s successful passage is a testament to the collaborative spirit within the Federal Parliament and the shared commitment to a sustainable future. Dr. Clarke extended her gratitude to her parliamentary colleagues for their support and emphasised the importance of collective action in addressing climate change.

“We are at a critical juncture where immediate and decisive action is required,” Dr. Clarke said.. “Through this agreement, we are reinforcing our commitment to protect our environment, safeguard our communities, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.”

Senator Clarke said that the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (Agreement) Bill, 2024, represents a significant step forward in St. Kitts and Nevis’ environmental agenda.
