RSCNPF REPORTS SUCCESSFUL J’OUVERT 2025 OPERATIONS; ZERO TOLERANCE FOR WEAPONS & VIOLENCE REITERATED
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), working in close collaboration with soldiers of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF), reports that law enforcement operations conducted during the J’ouvert festivities on December 26th, 2025, were largely successful, ensuring public safety during one of the Federation’s largest Carnival street events.
Thousands of revellers participated in J’ouvert celebrations on St. Kitts. The RSCNPF maintained a strong, visible presence throughout the festivities, supported by targeted patrols, vehicle checkpoints, stop-and-search operations, and coordinated deployments across both islands.
As a result of police operations, four (4) individuals were taken into custody:
⭕️ One (1) for wounding
⭕️ Two (2) for disorderly conduct by fighting
⭕️ One (1) for driving without a valid driver’s licence
(❇️ One (1) individual received hospital treatment in connection with the wounding incident)
Additional vehicle checkpoints and search operations were conducted on Nevis in support of the national security posture. During coordinated search operations at the Charlestown Pier, Sea Bridge, and NASPA Oualie Water Taxi Facility on Nevis, supported by police K-9 units, officers conducted searches of persons and personal effects as part of efforts to ensure a safe and violence-free Carnival. These operations resulted in the confiscation of:
⛔️ Forty-one (41) pairs of scissors
⛔️ Two (2) knives
⛔️ Three (3) makeshift weapons
⛔️ Fifty-seven (57) lighters
⛔️ Four (4) ski masks
⛔️ A quantity of cannabis
⬆️ Additional prohibited and dangerous items were also confiscated during operations on St. Kitts (see photos).
While the RSCNPF is encouraged by the overall cooperation of the majority of revellers, the Force expresses deep disappointment and concern that some individuals chose to attend Carnival events armed with weapons, or items capable of causing serious harm. Such conduct places lives at risk and directly undermines the spirit of celebration, culture, and community that Carnival is meant to embody.
The RSCNPF strongly advises persons with malicious intentions to think carefully before choosing to arm themselves and enter public festivities. Carnival is a time to de-stress, not distress. While individuals are free to dance, fete, and enjoy themselves, they must also understand that poor choices can quickly result in the loss of that freedom. Selecting ignorance over intelligence carries real and lasting consequences.
The RSCNPF reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on violence, weapons, and criminal conduct, during Carnival and throughout the year. Persons who choose to carry weapons, engage in violent behaviour, or otherwise threaten public safety will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law.
The RSCNPF thanks the law-abiding public for their cooperation and commends officers across all divisions for their professionalism, vigilance, and dedication during the J’ouvert operations. Policing operations will continue throughout the Carnival season to ensure the peace, safety, and security of all.
