The Passport Case Will Amount To Naught
Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas continues to be the feature attraction, as the government of St. Kitts and Nevis persist with a lawsuit against him, claiming that he has breached the rules and laws of parliament.
During the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party’s Press Conference yesterday Wednesday 28th February, Dr. Douglas, Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition, said confidently that the government’s case will amount to naught.
In response to questions from the local media fraternity, Dr. Douglas stressed that the strength of the facts of the case are in his favor as the matter is one created simply out of the emotional rancor of those in government.
“I am not a citizen of Dominica. I never applied for citizenship and I was never granted. I never swore any allegiance to any other country but to St. Kitts and Nevis.”
Accordingly, he stated that a diplomatic passport was issued to him by the government of Dominica led by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt, as a token of recognition, respect, and gratitude for his stellar and long-standing service, not only in St. Kitts and Nevis, but the wider Caribbean region.
This, according to Dr. Douglas, is supported in his case in a submission from the Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs in Dominica, on behalf of Prime Minister Skeritt’s government.
Dr. Douglas made an appearance before the High Court on Monday, 26th February.
The matter was adjourned until April 20th, 2018, as the Harris-led government requested for more time, having seen the extent of the evidence presented on Dr. Douglas’ behalf.
