Two top teams suffer shock defeats in Constituency Number Seven Domino League
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, October 3, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — The evening of Tuesday October 2 was one that low ranked teams sent shock waves to top seeds, albeit narrow wins, in the ninth segment of the second round of the round-robin stage in the 23rd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition.
Last week Tuesday September 25, Beers Domino Club suffered their worst defeat when Molineux walloped them 13-0. To make the matters worse, that thrashing was on their home turf, Bernette Bar in Hidden Alley Lodge Village. Exactly one week later, on Tuesday October 2, the team proved that there was still some juice flowing in their veins when at their home ground (Bernette Bar) they narrowly beat champions Lodge Domino Club 13-12.
Giants Domino Club is a team that last week lost two straight games. On Tuesday September 25 they were beaten 13-6 by Parsons, and on Thursday September 27 they suffered another loss at the hands of Beers, who beat them 13-8. On Tuesday October 2, Giants had the last laugh when they went to Cuban Bar in Lodge Project to meet the home team, and immediate past champions, Unity Domino Club. After a tight game, Giants beat Unity 13-12.
In other games played on Tuesday October 2, Unstoppable stopped Phillips 13-5 in a game played at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux; Christchurch beat Molineux 13-4 in a game held at Domino House in Mansion Village; and Parsons used their home advantage in Constituency Number Six, when they beat the visiting Guinness 13-4 at Bradshaw Bar on Island Main Road, Parsons Village.
The second game that was supposed to have been played in Constituency Number Six between Saddlers and Sylvers at Shanty Bar in Saddlers Village did not take place, as some members of the home team were attending the funeral of a close friend. The game will be played at a later date.
In the meantime, the game between Sylvers and Small Corner Bar that was postponed as a result of the passage of Tropical Storm Isaac was played on Monday October 1, where Sylvers narrowly beat Small Corner Bar 13-12 at Tacky Bar in Hidden Alley Lodge Village.
The tenth segment of the second round of the round-robin stage in the 23rd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition will take place on Thursday October 4. Originally three venues were going to host the six games, with Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project hosting three games – Saddlers vs. Giants; Christchurch vs. Lodge; and Parsons vs. Small Corner Bar.
League coordinator, Calvin Farrell, has hinted that since Unity Domino Club will not be playing on Thursday, their home ground Cuban Bar in Lodge Project will host one of the three games meant for the Lodge Community Centre. Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux will host two games, Molineux vs. Phillips; and Guinness vs. Unstoppable. The last game, between Beers and Sylvers, will be held at Tacky Bar in Hidden Alley Lodge Village.
