Labour will make St. Kitts and Nevis sweet again

This is the message from SKNLP Chairperson, Hon. Marcella Liburd, to the people of the twin-island federation as mounting scandals taint the Team Unity Government of Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris and expressions of regret from the electorate in his just two-year-old administration.

Referring to Prime Minister Harris as “the deceiver in chief,” the Central Basseterre parliamentarian said more people are now experiencing mounting hardship and difficulties as a result of the policies or lack of policies by the government which took office in February 2015.

Amid growing concern over what some circles have labelled Prime Minister as “a compulsive and blatant liar,” Liburd, a former Speaker and Deputy Speaker, accused Harris of divulging Cabinet information in breach of the constitution “by taking Cabinet Minutes to secret meetings. With those he now serves with government.”

“How can Harris be trusted? You cannot trust someone like,” said Ms. Liburd who mentioned Harris’ actions before he was dismissed from the SKNLP Administration of the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

Ms. Liburd criticised Dr. Harris for his recent attacks on journalists, pointing out that while in opposition they were the same people and media houses that he used to get his message to the electorate.

“Now he and his ministers are telling their supporters to ‘turn off the radio, and ‘do not listen to them,” said Ms. Liburd, who named journalists whom Harris frequently called.

“Now he has attacked them. Just last week, the Democrat, mouthpiece of the Peoples Action Movement (PAM), a collation partner accused these ‘foreign reporters of getting involved in our local politics,” said Ms. Liburd who was critical of Harris for dragging “Queen Elizabeth into our local politics,” said Liburd, who also railed against the attack on “nationals by fake personalities and paid operatives to smear critics of the government to stifle free speech.”

The present chaos and dysfunction was highlighted in several government ministries and corporations including the St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board, the National Housing Corporation, ZIZ Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), the Judiciary, the Parliament, the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank where either Board chairmen or CEO’s resigned;. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and even within the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) headed by Harris.

We make mistakes in life. We ask you to join us in healing this nation and restoring St. Kitts and bringing the joy back to all the people.”
