Shock results mark opening night of 25th edition of Constituency #7 Domino League
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, July 29, 2020 (MMS-SKN) — The 25th edition of Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League, started off at three venues on Tuesday July 28 returning shock results for the defending champion and a former champion team.
The league, which is the longest running in the Federation, is sponsored by Prime Minister and Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris. Fourteen teams are taking part in this year’s competition. Twelve teams are from Constituency Number Seven and two teams, including the defending champion team, come from Constituency Number Six.
Defending champion, Parsons Domino Club, faced Christchurch Domino Club in a game played at the Tabernacle Police Station as a result of the non-availability of the original venue, the Tabernacle Community Centre. At the end of the keenly contested game, Christchurch emerged the winner rattling the champion club with a 13-11 win.
A former longstanding champion team, the Lodge Domino Club which stayed out of the competition last year could not believe it when their one-year layoff’s rustiness paid dearly after they were beaten by another team that would have also stayed out of the competition last year. In the game played at the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project, Phillips Domino Club beat Lodge Domino Club 13-11.
With the Lodge Community Centre only accommodating two games as a result of the strict Covid-19 protocols being observed, a third game intended to be played at the centre was moved to the neighbouring Cuban Bar, where another former champion team, Unity Patriots Domino Club beat Saddlers Domino Club 13-8.
Guinness Domino Club, which last year finished in the fourth position, signalled their intention to move up higher this year by beating Sylvers Domino Club 13-7 during their encounter at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux.
In other games, Mansion Domino Club beat Tabernacle Domino Club 13-5 at the Tabernacle Police Station; Unstoppable Domino Club in a game played at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux beat Molineux Domino Club 13-6; and Small Corner Bar Domino Club beat Giants Domino Club 13-8 at the Lodge Community Centre.
Second segment of play in the first round of the 25th edition of Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League will continue on Thursday July 30 at the three venues, Tabernacle Community Centre, Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux, and the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project, all games starting at 7:00 pm.
