Nine more die of COVID-19, 356 new cases recorded

T&T’s COVID-19 deaths have reached 285, with an additional nine deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health in its clinical update on Sunday noted the latest fatalities: three elderly males with co-morbidities, one middle-aged male with co-morbidities, one elderly female with co-morbidities, one middle-aged female with co-morbidities, two middle-aged males without co-morbidities and one middle-aged female without co-morbidities.

A total of 356 additional people have tested positive for COVID-19. These new patients will be processed for admission at the discretion of the CMOHs.

The number of cases reported reflects the samples taken during the period Wednesday and Saturday and not the last 24 hours.

Currently, 382 COVID-19 positive patients remain at hospital, with 139 patients at the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility – 52 patients in the High Dependency Unit and 15 patients in the Intensive Care Unit.

The Ministry noted that 12 people have been discharged from public health facilities.

A total of 131 recovered community cases have been recorded. Recovered community cases refer to persons who were previously COVID-19 positive and in self-isolation at home and subsequently met the discharge criteria and were released from self-isolation.

To date, 16,255 people have tested positive for COVID-19, with 5,762 of those cases being active.

The Ministry noted that 4,913 people remain in home self-isolation, 381 in State quarantine facilities  and 111 in step down facilities.

A total of 153,053 people have been tested at both public and private facilities.

As for the Ministry’s vaccination drive, 60,671 people have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, and 1,179 fully vaccinated.

The Ministry will provide another update on the status of COVID-19 in T&T tomorrow.
