5 more COVID-19 deaths; 2,000 more fully vaccinated

The Ministry of Health has recorded five more COVID-19 related deaths, however the vaccination rate continues to increase.

In today’s update the Ministry of Health said the five COVID-19 related deaths were three elderly males and one elderly female with comorbidities and one elderly female without comorbidities, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,505.

The Ministry said additionally 159 more people tested positive for the virus, bringing the number of active cases to 4,217. The total number of positive cases recorded stands at 51,243.

The Ministry said in terms of vaccinations, 581,504 people have received their first dose of a two-dose regime, while 488,131 have received their second dose of a two-dose regime.

20,174 people have so far received the one-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine, bringing the number of people who completed their vaccination regime to 508,305, an increase of 2,060 since Saturday’s update.

Of those who received a first dose, 120,099 were AstraZeneca, 383,874 were Sinopharm and 488,131 were the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

Currently the Ministry said there are 286 hospitalised patients, 3,711 people in home isolation, 125 patients in state quarantine facilities, and 61 people in step-down facilities.

Of those hospitalised, the Ministry said there are 57 patients at the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility with eight people in ICU and 10 in HDU.

The Ministry said there are 21 patients at Caura Hospital, 44 at the Augustus Long Hospital, 34 at the Arima General Hospital, 52 at the New Point Fortin Hospital, 31 at the St James Medical Complex, six at the St Ann’s Hospital, 35 at the Scarborough Regional Hospital at Fort King George, and six at the Scarborough General Hospital at Signal Hill.

In terms of recoveries, the Ministry said there were 157 recovered community cases and25 people discharged from public health facilities.

At state step-down facilities, the Ministry said there are 35 at the UWI, Debe facility, 15 at the Tacarigua facility, five at the Couva Field Hospital and six at UTT Valsayn.
