Sugar Girls Under 17 Return Home

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 12, 2021 — After a successful campaign in Florida, the St. Kitts and Nevis under 17 women’s team has returned home.

They dished out a 4 -1 defeat to the US Virgin Islands and a 2-nil victory over Surinam in the CONCACAF under 17  women’s tournament.

They therefore topped group A and have advanced to the CONCACAF women’s under 17 championship, to be played in January 2022.

Coach Earl Jones was high in praise for the efforts of the team, and thanked the backroom staff for their support.

Captain Malaika Rouse also praised her teammates and noted that the game against Surinam was much tougher that the first game against the USVI team.

The Sugar Girls are looking forward to excelling in the upcoming qualifiers in January, with the ultimate goal of making it to the 2022 FIFA under 17 women’s world cup.

MIAMI, Florida – Saints Kitts and Nevis punched their ticket to the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship after defeating Suriname 2-0 in CWU17 Qualifying on Friday at the IMG Academy in Bradenton.


After downing U.S. Virgin Islands 4-1 on Wednesday and adding another three points against Suriname, Saint Kitts and Nevis have claimed the top spot in Group A with six points.
Jahzara Claxton’s goal in the 19’ and a score from Kionna Mills in the 67’ provided the margin of
victory.

Suriname will close out their group stage campaign on Sunday when they face U.S. Virgin Islands, with each nation still alive of reaching the CWU17 as the best ranked second-place finisher among the three groups.
