What is a Job Interview?

The job interview is a very crucial phase in the job search process. It is an opportunity for both the employer and potential employee to communicate information and to determine if they match each other’s needs.

Purpose of Interview:

The interview serves both the needs of the employer and potential employee.

This is an opportunity for the potential employee to present his/ her skills, experience, interests, education, and other strengths as they relate to the position he/ she is applying for. It is also an opportunity to get more information about the organisation or position. This will help the potential employee decide if it is the right job and work environment for him/ her.

The interview is also an opportunity for the employer to meet the potential employee and gather further relevant information about him/ her, to see if he/ she match the requirements of the job. It is an opportunity to assess the potential employee in person.

Preparing for your interview pt.2

Before the Interview:

1). Research the organization: Learn as much about the company as possible. Use the company’s website, annual report, business magazine etc. to gather as much information as possible.

2). Think of questions to ask the interviewer Be prepared. Anticipate likely interview questions and plan your answers.

3). Practice Prepare by rehearsing with someone (a friend or family member for e.g.).
