EDUCATION LEADERS CONDUCT SITE VISIT TO KEY EDUCATION PROJECTS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, Monday, April 13, 2026: Heads of Departments (HODs) from the Ministry of Education conducted a site visit on Thursday, April 9, to gain firsthand insight into ongoing developments within the education sector. Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, led the HOD group on this tour. Also present was Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lisa Pistana. The visit provided an opportunity for education leaders to observe progress, assess infrastructural improvements, and better understand how these initiatives will enhance teaching and learning environments.

Among the key locations visited was the Christopher-Wilkin Institute of Technology (CWIT), where significant equipment upgrades are currently underway. Some equipment includes a Virtual Welding Simulator, which allows students to weld using an electronic simulating device, a smart board, and a smart projector that allows connections to other technical schools in Nevis for remote communication and collaboration.

The delegation also visited the construction site of the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School (JOWPS), where work is progressing steadily. The new school facility is designed to provide a safe, modern, and supportive learning environment for students, reflecting the continued commitment to improving educational infrastructure across the federation.

Throughout the visit, the Ministry’s HODs engaged in discussions with project managers and stakeholders, gaining valuable insight into timelines, challenges, and expected outcomes. These interactions allowed the leaders to better appreciate the scope and impact of the ongoing projects.

The visit concluded with a stop at the proposed site for the installation of an electrical charging station intended to support the introduction of electric school buses. This initiative represents a forward-thinking step toward sustainability within the education sector, highlighting efforts to integrate environmentally friendly solutions into school transportation systems.
