OLDER PERSONS IN ST. KITTS-NEVIS WILL CONTINUE TO BE PROTECTED AND CARED FOR THROUGH IMPLEMENTATION OF AGEING POLICY

 

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 03, 2018 (SKNIS): The Department of Social and Community Development and by extension the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is moving to ensure that older persons are protected, cared for and remain engaged in society. Against this backdrop an ageing policy is being reviewed.

During her appearance on ‘Working for You’ on Wednesday, October 03, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development, Gender Affairs and Social Services, Janelle Lewis, said that an assessment of the Federation’s ageing population was carried out several years ago that looked at issues faced by older persons in St. Kitts and Nevis.

ONE CHARGED AND ANOTHER IN CUSTODY FOR POSSESSION OF AMMUNITION

 

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 04, 2018 (RSCNPF): A woman was charged for Possession of Ammunition following a search operation conducted by the Police on Tuesday, October 02.

The operation was carried out at the ferry terminal late Tuesday afternoon. Police intercepted a package that was collected from a ferry and, upon searching it, five (5) .38 rounds of ammunition were discovered. As a result, two persons were taken into Police custody.

Several students injured in gas tank explosion at Nevis’ Medical University of the Americas (MUA)

Charlestown, Nevis, October 3, 2018 – Gas tanks exploded tonight (Wednesday) in dorms at Nevis’ Medical University of the Americas (MUA).

According to a FaceBook post by Everton “Obi” Powell,  some students have been burnt and injured in the explosions and were taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Charlestown by fellow students.

“Clothes were completely off, they had to be wrapped in blankets. One or two rooms on the building completely destroyed. Nearby apartment saw 3 rooms being damaged. Firemen and police are on the scene fighting the burning building,” Powell, a reliable source reported.

A video of the rooms on fire has also been posted on FaceBook.

Robbery attempt at Bass Supermarket And Bakery at Parry’s Village in St. Parrys’ Village, St. Kitts

Its been alleged that Bass Supermarket and Bakery robbed at Parry’s Village, in St. Peter’s has been robbed.
According to a Bass family member two masked and armed men entered the business place around 7:40 Wednesday night and held up the business place.
It was not immediately known how many employees and customers were inside the business at the time and if the robbers made off with cash and how much.

Arrested: Enslie Lewis of Shaw Avenue, Basseterre was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offences of Housebreaking, Larceny and Receiving.

Arrested: Anthony Silliday of Green Tree, Old Road was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offence of Malicious Damage.
