Address by the Hon Prime Minister and Minister of National Security at the Opening Ceremony of the National Security and Crisis Management Course conducted by the Galilee International Management Institute – Israel on April 23, 2018, at the Police Training School

Let me begin by welcoming the Galilee International Management Institute to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.  We are happy for the support in the area of public safety and security.

The modern era is frequently punctuated by crises emanating from the natural and social worlds that threaten national, regional and even international security. Crises have developed in various ways, including the catastrophic damage caused by natural disasters – for example, hurricanes and earthquakes. A host of transnational threats are also emerging: the rise of international terrorism, the spectre of cyber-attacks by belligerent states and politically motivated groups, climate change and the prospect of resource shortages.

ANOTHER FIREARM TAKEN INTO POLICE CUSTODY, ACP APPEALS FOR MORE PUBLIC ASSISTANCE

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 22, 2018 (RSCNPF): A search exercise conducted on a home in Sandy Point has resulted in a firearm and ammunition being taken into Police custody.

The search was conducted at about 6 p.m. on April 21 and one Hi-Point 380ACP was found with live rounds in the magazine. As a result, eleven (11) persons were taken into Police custody along with the weapon.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) responsible for Operations, Terrence James, stated that the number of firearms being found continues to be alarming.

“We are deeply concerned by this and other firearm and ammunition finds. The public is well aware of the problems we have with drugs and firearms in the federation. The results are clear when we get information and are able to act on it. It takes a community to protect a community. The police cannot do it alone,” ACP James said.

As the men and women of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force continue to put their lives on the line, he urged members of the public to report suspicious activity or information they might have about criminal activity to their nearest police station.

Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
