WORLD – Pfizer begins study of oral drug for prevention of COVID-19

Source: Reuters – Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) said on Monday it has started a large study testing its investigational oral antiviral drug for the prevention of COVID-19 infection among those who have been exposed to the virus.

The drugmaker and its rivals, including U.S.-based Merck & Co Inc (MRK.N) and Swiss pharmaceutical Roche Holding AG (ROG.S), have been racing to develop an easy-to-administer antiviral pill for COVID-19.

Two regional experts support actions by local unions to oppose the government’s vaccine mandate

Trade unionists on the island who are mounting legal challenges to the government’s vaccine mandate for public sector workers are likely to be successful in the court.

That’s the view of Dr George Braithwaite, a lecturer in Sociology, Social Work and Psychology at the UWI Cave Hill Campus.

Antigua and Barbuda has announced that from today, 20 Sept., all unvaccinated government employees are required to remain at home, and will not be paid from 1 Oct. unless they can prove they have received a COVID-19 vaccine.
