OFFICERS FIND ILLEGAL DRUGS CONCEALED IN WATER HEATER

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 19, 2018, (RSCNPF): Customs and Police Officers carried out a search of a package marked “Prestige Trucking Services” at the Head Office of Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department at Bird Rock. As a result, twelve (12) packages with a vegetable material suspected to be cannabis were found inside a water heater that was enclosed in the package. The incident occurred at about 11:05 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.

19-year-old Cleon Browne is murder victim #1

Gingerland, Nevis, January 17, 2018 – A 19-year-old youth in Nevis became the Federation’s first murder victim on Wednesday.

Cleon Browne was gunned down in a hail of bullets as he walked along the road in Rawlins Village, Gingerland, Nevis close to midday.

St. Kitts and Nevis police investigation rape incident

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 17, 2018 – Police investigations are continuing into a rape incident that occurred in the Taylor’s Range area over the weekend.

The incident occurred in the same area where two break-ins reportedly took place and the offence could be connection to one of the incidents.

A 100 percent increase in St. Kitts and Nevis nationals deported from the United States in 2017

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 9, 2018 – St. Kitts and Nevis recorded just over a 100 percent increase in the number of nationals deported to the twin-island from the United States in 2017.

Statistics obtained from the United States Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) website stated that 16 Kittitians and Nevisians were deported in 2017 compared 9 in 2015.

ICE indicated that 15 nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis were deported in 2015.

The Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement has identified St. Kitts and Nevis as among 23 countries that often refuses or delays issuing travel documents for ICE deportees.

In 2015, it took St. Kitts and Nevis 165 days to respond to ICE requests and the average number of days it takes for the countries to repatriate citizens.

When the deportation process takes longer than six months, ICE must release the foreign nationals under current laws.
