BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, December 12, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Tuesday, December 11, 2018, marked a historic day in St. Kitts and Nevis, as that day saw the world’s largest cruise liner, the MS Symphony of the Seas, docking at Port Zante in one of the smallest independent countries in the world – a moment, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris and his Cabinet colleagues believe every Kittitian and Nevisian should be extremely proud of.

MS Symphony of the Seas is an oasis-class cruise ship owned and operated by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. It can accommodate 5,518 passengers at double occupancy up to a maximum capacity of 6,680, as well as 2,200 crew.

EAST LINE BUS TERMINAL OPENS, BRINGS EASE OF TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND RELIEF TO MOTORISTS AND PEDESTRIANS
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, December 12, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The people-centered policies and programmes of the Team Unity Administration continue to positively impact the lives of ordinary citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.

This was further demonstrated on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, when the Government officially opened the gates to the brand-new EC$4 million East Line Bus Terminal on Wellington Road in Basseterre that will significantly reduce traffic congestion in the Baker’s Corner area and bring great relief to the residents of Johnson Street and Branch Street – the streets where the omnibus operators previously plied their trade from.

An opening ceremony was held on the island main road in front of the new bus terminal. The ceremony brought with it much excitement as dozens gathered to witness firsthand the cutting of the ribbon and experience the feel of the spacious and well-lit new facility.

APPROPRIATION (2019) BILL, 2018 DEBATE TO FOCUS ON ENHANCING QUALITY OF LIFE, SAYS MINISTER OF FINANCE, PM HARRIS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 12, 2018 (SKNIS): Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, on Wednesday, December 12, during the Sitting of Parliament introduced the Appropriation (2019) Bill, 2018, of approximately EC$773 million, under the theme: “Sustaining Growth and Prosperity”.

“…this Budget debate must be about how we are enhancing the quality of life for the ordinary people of St. Christopher and Nevis. This Budget then, is about how we sustain the growth and prosperity that are happening in St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Prime Minister Harris.

WORLD’S LARGEST CRUISE SHIP DOCKS AT PORT ZANTE, BRINGING THOUSANDS OF VISITORS TO THE SHORES OF
ST. KITTS-NEVIS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 12, 2018 (SKNIS): The vision behind the design and construction of the berthing facility at Port Zante in Basseterre, St. Kitts, continues to be realized with the December 11th inaugural visit of MS Symphony of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world, owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International.

Symphony of the Seas departed Miami for St. Kitts – its first port of call – on an itinerary that includes St. Thomas, USVI and Nassau, Bahamas, before returning to its port of embarkation, Miami.

Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Lindsay Grant, welcomed the passengers and crew to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, and expressed thanks and appreciation to the cruise line company.

Development Bank supports Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant 

Basseterre, St. KittsDecember 12, 2018 (DBSKN) — This year’s Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant, the 39th edition of the premier regional event, will be held on Sunday December 30, and Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis (DBSKN) is one of the main sponsors.

According to Mr Lawson Archibald, chairman of the Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant committee, ten countries have so far confirmed participation in the pageant that will be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Grand Ballroom.
