SCORES OF RESIDENTS ANSWER CALL TO CLEAN UP BAYS IN SANDY POINT, ST. KITTS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 04, 2018 (SKNIS): Approximately 100 people came together this past Saturday (September 01) to clean up four bays in Sandy Point making them more enjoyable for residents to use, while enhancing the natural environment.

The activity was organized by the Department of Youth Empowerment, who tasked members of its Volunteer Corps, and mobilised community residents and workers from the Skills Training Empowerment Programme (STEP) to accomplish the task. Officials from Parks and Beaches, the Ministry of Health, the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC), and the Red Cross also contributed to the effort.

PRIME MINISTER HARRIS ATTENDS SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL FOR FINANCE AND PLANNING
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 4, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, is presently in Barbados where he has joined his regional colleagues for the one-day Sixth Special Meeting of the Council for Finance and Planning (COFAP) today, Tuesday, September 4.

The COFAP is responsible for economic policy coordination, financial and monetary integration of member states. It is being held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, the Honourable Gaston Browne, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC).

KEY STAKEHOLDERS TO PARTICIPATE IN ABS LEGISLATIVE REVIEW WORKSHOP IN ST. KITTS-NEVIS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 04, 2018 (SKNIS): Stakeholders from the public and private sector, as well as experts on genetic resources, and traditional medicines and conservationists will take part in a three-day consultation workshop aimed at reviewing and revising draft legislative provisions related to compliance with the Nagoya Protocol on Access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilization of these resources. 

The workshop, which runs from September 5-6 in St. Kitts and September 07 in Nevis, will be hosted by the Department of Environment and facilitated by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with funding from the United Nations Environment (UNE) and the Global Environment Fund (GEF).
