Events to mark PM Harris’ 25^th anniversary as a parliamentarian unveiled

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 9, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — A calendar of three weeks of activities to mark the 25^th anniversary of Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris as a parliamentary representative for Constituency Number Seven was officially unveiled to the public on Thursday November 8 at a press conference held at the Edgar T. PUBLIC INVITED TO ATTEND REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE IN HONOUR OF THE COUNTRY’S FALLEN WAR VETERANS

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 9, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis are being invited to attend the Remembrance Day Religious Service and Parade on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Cenotaph in Fortlands, Basseterre from 8 am.

There, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, members of his Cabinet and other government officials, as well as members of the armed forces and uniformed bodies will gather to pay their respects to the heroes who gave their lives during the Great Wars of 1914 to 1918 (World War I) and 1939 to 1945 (World War II).

Each year, on the second Sunday of November, services of remembrance take place at war memorials and cenotaphs in Britain and Commonwealth nations to pay tribute to their servicemen and women who died in World War I and World War II.

At 11 am on 11 November 1918, “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month”, a ceasefire was declared and negotiations were soon started to terminate the Great War or World War One A number of persons from St. Kitts, Nevis and Anguilla had enlisted and served in the various regiments.

At the outbreak of the First World War, activists like Marcus Garvey encouraged West Indians to volunteer arguing that loyalty to the Empire would earn them the right to be treated as equals. The need for soldiers quickly outweighed the reluctance of the Secretary of State to allow them to join the British Forces. In 1915 the British West Indies Regiment was formed.

PERSONS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOUND TO HAVE GUNSHOT INJURIES

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 09, 2018 (RSCNPF): Two of the four persons who were taken into Police custody on Thursday, November 08 are currently receiving treatment at the Alexandra Hospital for gunshot injuries.

The four were taken into custody in relation to an armed robbery early Thursday morning that resulted in the victim being shot and injured. The victim was able to shoot both intruders during the incident.

Cayon Man Acquitted On Gun Charge

St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Ian Hull is a free man after a he was acquitted of gun and ammunition charges on Thursday.

Hull, a resident of Cunningham Village, Cayon, was in May 2016 charged with illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

The trial began Tuesday at the Basseterre High Court. Hull was represented by defense attorney Jason Hamilton while Crown Counsel Greatess Gordon and Vaughn Woodley presented for the prosecution.
