COUNCIL FOR FOREIGN AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS (COFCOR) STATEMENT ON THE SITUATION IN VENEZUELA

Foreign Ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) gathered in Bridgetown, Barbados, at the Twentieth Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) deliberated on the changes taking place in the international environment as well as in their wider regional environment and on their implications for the coordinated foreign policy positioning of their countries.

They reiterated the importance they accord to maintenance of the rule of law, respect for human rights and democracy, as well as to the fundamental principles of non-intervention and non-interference in the internal affairs of states. These values and principles were viewed as being of paramount importance when addressing international situations of concern.

POLICE CONTINUED VIGILANCE NETS ILLEGAL FIREARM AND ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE (105) ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 20, 2017 (RSCNPF): Continued hard work by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police in efforts to remove illegal firearms and ammunition from our communities is continuing to yield positive results. Overnight Officers of the Special Services Unit (SSU) removed another illegal firearm and over one hundred rounds of ammunition from our communities.

As part of the increased Operational Tempo officers executed a number of search warrants and other searches on Friday night (May 19) and early Saturday morning (May 10).  The searches netted one (1) illegal firearm and a total of one hundred and five (105) rounds of ammunition.

SKN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY MEETS ON TUESDAY MAY 23

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 19, 2017 (SKNIS): The Order Paper has been circulated for a Sitting of the National Assembly to be held at the National Assembly Chambers, Government Headquarters, Basseterre, on Tuesday 23rd May, 2017, at 10:00 am.

Several Bills will come before the House, some for their first reading and others for their second reading.

The Honourable Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Sustainable Development, National Security, People Empowerment and Constituency Empowerment, Dr. Timothy Harris, will seek leave to introduce and have read a first time The Firearms (Amendment) Bill and Eastern Caribbean Partial Credit Guarantee Bill.

PM Harris rushes to appoint Public Accounts Committee ahead of CPA Conference in St. Kitts and Nevis next month

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 21st 2017 – After nearly two and a half years of trampling on the St. Kitts and Nevis Constitution by refusing to appoint a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the National Assembly, Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris is rushing to have one in place ahead of a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference to be held in St. Kitts next month.

Opposition Parliamentarians, both at the Federal level in Basseterre and the Nevis Island Administration level in Charlestown, have been urging their respective Prime Minister Harris and Premier Hon. Vance Amory, to appoint the PAC in compliance with the Constitution.  The Nevis Island Assembly is soon to end its five year term without a PAC ever in place.

St. Kitts and Nevis police now claim they cannot locate the Chinese fugitive wanted in Beijing

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 19th 2017 – Top Security officials in St. Kitts and Nevis are now claiming that they cannot locate the Chinese native wanted for fraud in Beijing, after regional counterparts had urged them to have the man interviewed.

CaribUpdate said Friday morning it has seen a note from a top Kittitian official who is claiming that the man might have changed his location since he is apparently not at the address that they had guided Chinese police agents to in April.
