FLORIDA, United States, Sunday June 18, 2017 – There’s a high chance that a tropical wave currently located over the western Caribbean Sea will develop into a storm early next week.
In fact, the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Miami says there’s a 90 percent probability of it happening within the next five days. There’s still a chance – 60 percent – that it will form within the next two days.
“The broad area of low pressure located over the northwestern Caribbean Sea continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Gradual development of the system is expected while it moves slowly northwestward across the Yucatan Peninsula later today and over the southern or central Gulf of Mexico tomorrow and Tuesday, where a tropical or subtropical cyclone is likely to form,” the NHC said.
Regardless of development, heavy rains are expected over portions of Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, western Cuba, Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula during the next several days.
A hurricane hunter aircraft may investigate the system later.
