ST. KITTS AND NEVIS GOVERNMENT MOVES TO RELAX MARIJUANA LAWS THROUGH THE TABLING OF THE HISTORIC CANNABIS BILL, 2019

 

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 9, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Team Unity Government today, Thursday, May 9, introduced several landmark pieces of bills before the National Assembly, among them being the Cannabis Bill, 2019, which will in essence provide the legal framework relating to the cultivation and use of marijuana in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The Cannabis Bill, 2019, provides for the regulation and control of cannabis for religious use, by documented members of registered religious organizations, to uphold the constitutional rights afforded to each citizen of Saint Christopher and Nevis, to establish the Saint Christopher and Nevis Medicinal Cannabis Authority whose functions will be described herein, to authorize medicinal and alternative health practitioners to recommend medicinal cannabis, to establish scientific research protocol for medicinal cannabis, and to establish a licensing structure and complete tracking system for medicinal cannabis businesses.

This decision by the Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris-led administration was arrived at following an exhaustive, meticulous and comprehensive research and consultative process led by the St. Kitts & Nevis (National) Marijuana Commission over a 16-month period.

This year marks the 24th anniversary of Taiwan’s implementation of universal health coverage. Taiwan’s National Health Insurance (NHI) covers the full spectrum of essential and high-quality health services, from prevention and treatment to rehabilitation and palliative care.

In the 1960s, Taiwan’s progressive health sector began the process of incorporating laborers, farmers, and government employees into the health insurance system. It is now widely regarded as one of the best in the world. The NHI ranked 14th in the 2017 Global Access to Healthcare Index of The Economist, and ninth in the 2018 Health Care Efficiency Index of Bloomberg Finance.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 08, 2019 (SKNIS): The Small Business Development Centre (SBDC) aims at providing proficient and sufficient technical support to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME). Against this backdrop, Delwayne Delaney, Senior Officer for SBDC, says that the agency will “hold the hands” of small businesses wishing to take their business to the next level.

While appearing on the radio and television show “Working for You” on May 08, Mr. Delaney said that small businesses are integral to the growth of the economy, adding that it is necessary to support them.
