Prime Minister Harris underscores importance of parents’ role in their children’s lives

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, October 18, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris has once again reiterated that parents play a very important role in the lives of their children, while observing that positive motivation does not require a parent to be an expert in the area he is or she is attempting to help their children.

“You do not have to know the modern maths or the modern English to encourage your child to learn,” said Dr Harris. He stated that a parent could help their child by asking the right questions, and also by asking if the child has any homework. A loving and caring parent should also visit the teacher to ask how the child is doing, noting that it can provide positive motivation to the child.

PRESS RELEASE

National Museum’s New Exhibition to Focus

On Trade and Banking

(St. Christopher National Trust) October 11, 2018:  The history of trade and money in St. Kitts is the focus of a new exhibition at the National Museum, set to open on Tuesday October 23rd.

A joint initiative between the St. Christopher National Trust and the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the History of Commerce and Banking Exhibition explores the marked shift in the island’s economy following Emancipation.

Prior to Emancipation most trade in St. Kitts was conducted directly with England, with sugar being used as the main form of exchange.  After 1834 however, the former enslaved people had to be paid wages in cash.  This ushered in a money economy which saw an increase in both the volume of imports and the number of retail business.

SECURITY FORCES PRAISED FOR THEIR EFFECTIVENESS DURING CARNIVAL SEASON

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 17, 2018 (SKNIS): Law enforcement officers in St. Kitts and Nevis came in for high praise for their efforts at policing Carnival activities and maintaining safety and security.

This was echoed by Noah Mills, Chairman of St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC), during his appearance on “Working for You” on Wednesday, October 17, where he commended members of the security forces for their efficiency during the past Carnival seasons.

“I think that the police and the army and the other security forces have done a tremendous job over the years, especially the last three years where we have been there in controlling some of the bands as it relates to accident, crime and violence, and personal attacks during the various events on the streets or in the neighbourhood and I commend them using this medium,” he said, adding that they were able to carry out their duties with diligence and efficiency and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
