St. Kitts- Nevis Foreign Minister Brantley engages with Foreign Affairs Officials from the United Arab Emirates

September 27, 2018 (Ministry of Foreign Affairs): St. Kitts and Nevis’ Foreign Minister, Hon. Mark Brantley, engaged His Excellency Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs, on the substantive projects that are the outcome of the UAE-Caribbean development fund and its Technical Cooperation Framework. These projects focus on developing renewable energy resources and harnessing the benefits of solar energy in particular.

Given our consular presence in Dubai, UAE, the Minister also announced that the Cabinet of St. Kitts and Nevis has decided to expand its diplomatic representation by upgrading the St. Kitts and Nevis Consulate to an Embassy in the UAE.

On a regional front, Minister Brantley congratulated the Government of the UAE on its strong cooperation with and continued support of CARICOM.

GOVERNMENT OF NATIONAL UNITY CONTINUES ITS SOCIO-ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE WITH ROOF REPAIR PROJECT

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 27, 2018 (SKNIS): Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, and his Team Unity Government continues to be applauded for its roof repair project.

Ophelia Hodge shared words of gratitude not only to the Prime Minister, but to her Parliamentary Representative, Deputy Prime Minister, Honourable Shawn Richards.

“I feel so great because my Honourable Shawn Richards fixed my roof,” said Ophelia, who hails from Sandy Point. “I would like to say thanks to the Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris. Thanks very much. When rain came my roof used to leak plenty and I want to thank God for… the Unity Government.”

Words of gratitude were also shared from fellow “sandy pointers” Margaret and Coretta Liburd.

CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS HIGHLY FAVOUR GOVERNMENT’S ROOF REPAIR PROJECT

 

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 27, 2018 (SKNIS): Across the country, there is ample evidence that something good is happening as the Government of National Unity continues to bring satisfaction and joy to many citizens and residents by repairing their roofs that were damaged in the very active and catastrophic 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

As the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season is at its peak, it is necessary that citizens and residents have a sturdy roof that will mitigate the chances of damage. The government’s roof repair project is doing just that.

In several interviews, persons demonstrate their appreciation that their roofs are being fixed. One such person is Yvonne Chumney.

LAUNCH OF BOYS MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME AT BHS AIMS TO POSITIVELY   CHANGE THE LIVES OF NATION’S YOUTH

 

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 27, 2018 (SKNIS): At-risk adolescent males at the Basseterre High School (BHS) will now have a better chance of a brighter future through the launching of the Department of Gender Affairs Boys Mentorship Programme, which will provide the boys with life skill training, counseling, technical skills, job attachments and scholarships.

At the Launching Ceremony held today, September 27, at the Department of Agriculture, Chair and Coordinator for the Boys Mentorship Programme, Mr. Dion Browne, said that the programme which was initially launched in July 2016 as a pilot project will now continue to help transform the lives of young men throughout the Federation and take them on a journey of self-discovery.

“The boy’s mentorship programme was launched in July 2016 at the Charles E. Mills Secondary School and since then we have seen some successes. We have evaluated the programme and made some adjustments and now we are ready to expand,” he added.
