The Atlantic Hurricane Season’s Next Storm Could Develop off Bermuda

FLORIDA, United States, Wednesday July 4, 2018 – A tropical depression, or even Tropical Storm Beryl, could develop in the next few days between Bermuda and the United States, according to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Miami.

Forecasters are watching a trough of low pressure that is bringing with it disorganized showers and thunderstorms within a few hundred miles to the south of Bermuda.

“Environmental conditions appear conducive for some development of this system, and a tropical depression could form before the end of the week while the system moves west-northwestward and then northward between Bermuda and the east coast of the United States,” the NHC said.

But it added that the system is forecast to interact with a frontal system on Sunday, which would limit any additional development.

Even so, it has given the system a medium chance of developing further.

It put the odds of formation through the next two days at 40 per cent, and increased that to 60 per cent over a five-day period.

There is also some other activity elsewhere in the Atlantic.

A second tropical wave has developed in the eastern Atlantic several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, off Africa’s west coast.

This morning, it was moving to the west at 10 to 15 miles per hour and the NHC said it had a 30 per cent chance of developing more over the next two to five days.

However, it added that upper-level winds are expected to become less conducive for development by this weekend when the system approaches the Lesser Antilles.

It has been a quiet season so far, with no storm activity since Subtropical Storm Alberto formed in May, ahead of the June 1 start of the Atlantic hurricane season.

Development Bank enables pharmacist to prescribe wellness in the Old Road community

Basseterre, St. KittsJuly 3, 2018 (DBSKN) — Residents of the historic Old Road town and its environs now have reason to calm their nerves when it relates to matters of their health thanks to the partnership between a young female entrepreneur and the bank that makes a sustained positive difference in people’s lives – the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Being a firm believer in the old adage that ‘a nation’s health is a nation’s wealth’, Ms Rachida Maynard saw a need to actualise the adage in her community of Old Road as many people, both young and old, would be forced to travel to Basseterre to buy even simple over the counter medicine, and woe unto them if it involved prescription drugs.

OWNER OF PRIVATE JET TERMINAL AT RLB INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN ST. KITTS, DR. UDAY NAYAK, DENIES OPPOSITION’S PROPAGANDA

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 3, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Dr. Denzil Douglas-led Opposition St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party is once again being exposed for its deception and dishonesty all aimed at creating mischief and destabilizing the sustained growth and development the twin island Federation has been experiencing over the last three years under the Team Unity Government.

Late last week, the Opposition party posted an article on its Facebook page suggesting, among other things, that concerns with the security management at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport resulted in the loss of a contract and significant financial loss for the private terminal – now renamed KayanJet FBO Services – which in turn led to one of its partners ending its relationship with the business.

Dr. Uday Nayak, the Co-founder of the Veling Group, which operates the private terminal, has since publicly refuted those claims by the Opposition as “factually incorrect”.

In a statement to a regional news agency, Dr. Nayak confirmed that the terminal had indeed changed hands and has since been renamed.

“As Co-founder of the Veling Group, I have parted ways with the other founder and as such the ownership of KayanJet now rests with me,” Dr. Nayak said, while stating clearly that “The reason for this change has nothing to do with the reason reported on the Facebook page.”

Dr. Nayak also reiterated that KayanJet, as a top-of-the-range FBO, complies with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) security requirements and will continue to offer all products and services as hitherto. He further assured that KayanJet FBO Services will strive to ensure that St. Kitts remains a much-favoured destination for all visitors to the Caribbean region.

He added, “As the sole owner of KayanJet, I remain committed as an investor in St. Kitts and Nevis and contributing to the development of this beautiful island in any which way I can.”

The erroneous reports being peddled by the Opposition also sought to suggest that the country stands to lose a host of its international flights as a result of security management concerns at the RLB International Airport expressed by the US-based Transportation Security Administration (TSA) following an inspection of the facility in 2017.

Minister responsible for the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA), the Honourable Ian Patches Liburd, has since refuted those claims and labelled the reports as “fake news” aimed at distracting the people from the positive work of the Government.

The good work of the Government includes the construction of the second cruise pier at Port Zante, the commencement of the island main road rehabilitation project, the relocation of the Public Works Department’s Vehicle Maintenance Division and the subsequent construction of the East Line Bus Terminal, as well as the continued roll out of the Government’s vital housing programme.
