ON SIR KENNEDY’S 82^ND BIRTHDAY, PM HARRIS THANKS HIM FOR HIS PIONEERING IMPACT ON ST. KITTS-NEVIS AND THE WORLD

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, APRIL 12^th, 2018 (PRESS SEC) – Dr. the Rt. Excellent and the Rt. Honourable Sir Kennedy Simmonds, St. Kitts and Nevis’ first Prime Minister and only living National Hero, is celebrating his 82^nd birthday today, Thursday, April 12^th, 2018.

Today, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, who is leading a delegation on a Citizenship by Investment Promotion Tour in Hong Kong, congratulated Sir Kennedy on his 82^ndbirthday.

HAPPY HAPPY 82nd BIRTHDAY to the Federation of St. Kitts Nevis only Living National Hero and First Prime Minister Dr. Rt. Excellent and Rt. Hon Sir Kennedy A Simmonds .

Sir Simmonds was a founding member of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) Political party. He was the Premier of Saint Kitts and Nevis from 21 February 1980, until the twin-island state gained independence from the United Kingdom on 19 September 1983. Upon independence, he became the 1st Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis and as such has been hailed as “The Father of the Nation.”

In 2004, Simmonds was made a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George. In 2015, Simmonds became the fifth person to be named as a National Hero by the National Assembly. He is the first living person to receive this honour.
