Mr. Masatoshi Sato, Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Japan to St. Kitts and Nevis signs grant contract documents and Memorandum of Understanding with Director of the Nevis Disaster Management Department Mr. Brian Dyer at a signing ceremony at the Emergency Operations Centre, Long Point on March 15, 2017NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (March 16, 2017) — The Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) and the Embassy of Japan to St. Kitts and Nevis, signed a US $370,529 grant contract for the implementation of a project to improve disaster resilience and emergency shelter management on Nevis.  The ceremony was held at the Emergency Operations Centre, Long Point on March 15, 2017.
Mr. Masatoshi Sato, Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Japan to St. Kitts and Nevis signed the grant contract documents and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of the Government of Japan and Director of the NDMD Mr. Brian Dyer signed on behalf of the NIA.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua — The government of Antigua and Barbuda has announced the appointment of the first national of Antigua and Barbuda, Charmaine Quinland-Donovan, to head the country’s important Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU).

Quinland-Donovan’s appointment takes effect from March 27.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of a qualified and capable national of Antigua and Barbuda to lead the Citizenship by Investment Unit. I am doubly pleased that the appointee is a woman. This emphasizes my government’s commitment to advancing women in decision-making roles in our society.”

The prime minister drew attention to Quinland-Donovan’s previous service in the CIU in three important capacities as chief compliance officer, chief operating officer and acting chief executive officer.

“In this regard,” the prime minister explained, “Ms Quinland-Donovan brings substantial knowledge and experience to the vital work of the Unit, together with keen understanding of international best practices to maintain and improve the standing of our nation’s citizenship by investment programme.”

Quinland-Donovan holds a BSc with first class honours from the University of the West Indies. She is also a chartered director and a fully qualified anti-money laundering specialist. Quinland- Donovan was employed at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank for almost nine years, during which she served as bank examiner, supervised/regulated licensed financial institutions in the ECCU, led examination teams and worked with the Eastern Caribbean Securities Regulatory Unit. She has also worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia, where she was head of compliance for the Eastern Caribbean Region responsible for nine countries including St Maarten.

“Therefore, Ms Quinland Donovan comes with a wealth of banking experience that will inure to the benefit of the Citizenship by Investment Unit,” prime minister said.

“Given Ms Quinalnd-Donovan’s training and experience, out international partners can be assured of the integrity of our CIP and its safeguards against money-laundering, counter terrorism financing and the security of other nations,” Browne added.

Traffic Notice

Buckie Got It….Important Traffic Notice

In order to facilitate the smooth flow of the funeral procession of the late former Governor His Excellency Sir Probyn Inniss, and the smooth flow of traffic in the vicinity of the funeral, the Traffic Department will effect the following traffic restrictions on the following streets, on Thursday 23rd March 2017:

1. No parking will be permitted on Seaton Street and the street between the Methodist Church and the Old Boy School.

2. No parking will be permitted on Victoria Road between Seaton St. and Losack Road.

3. Traffic will flow Northwards only on Victoria Road. (Towards Moravian Church)

4. Traffic will not be permitted to enter Seaton Street from Nevis Street.

5. Traffic will flow westwards only along Springfield Road, i.e the street outside Government House.

6. Traffic will be diverted from Cayon Street during the procession from the Church to the Cemetery.

These restrictions will take effect from 6:00 am and will remain in place until after the funeral procession. Traffic signs will be posted and officers will be on duty to assist the motoring public. Your full cooperation is solicited.
