Another murder rocks St. Kitts and Nevis
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 6TH 2017 – Another young man is dead following the three Whitsun weekend murders.
Twenty-one year old Jahma Francis of St. Paul’s was one of three persons shot Tuesday afternoon (June 6th 2017) in St. Paul’s police have confirmed he died later at the J. N. France General Hospital.

FLORIDA, United States, Thursday June 1, 2017 – Today marks the official start of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season, but no tropical cyclones are expected during at least the next five days, according to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC).
The season, which will run until November 30, could be above normal, with an average of 12 named storms, six hurricanes and three major hurricanes. Forecasters say there is a 45 percent chance of an above-normal season, a 35 percent chance of a near-normal season, and only a 20 percent chance of a below-normal season.
An average season produces 12 named storms of which six become hurricanes, including three major hurricanes.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, there is a 70 percent likelihood of 11 to 17 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 5 to 9 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 2 to 4 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of 111 mph or higher).
One tropical cyclone, Tropical Storm Arlene, already formed this year in April. The next named storm that forms this season will be Bret. The last three years have featured preseason storms, including Arlene, Hurricane Alex (January 2016) and Tropical Storm Ana (May 2015).
Here’s a look at the other names that will be given to storms that form in the Atlantic this hurricane season.
This year’s “I” storm will be Irma instead of the now-retired Irene used six years ago.

Caribbean parliamentarians need to engage in more
advocacy for People Living with HIV and AIDS.
KINGSTON, JAMAICA, May 31st 2017 – The Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) Regional Parliamentarians Forum in Jamaica, commenced with a stirring keynote address by the Hon. Delroy Chuck, Minister of Justice, Jamaica.
Minister Chuck addressed the need for parliamentarians to engage in more advocacy for People Living with and Affected by HIV and AIDS at the policymaking level.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 30, 2017 (SKNIS): The Climate Change Adaptation in the Eastern Caribbean Fisheries Sector (CC4FISH) project was launched in St. Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday, May 30, during a national workshop, with the aim of increasing resilience and reducing vulnerability to climate change impacts in the Eastern Caribbean fisheries sector through introduction of adaptation measures in fisheries management and capacity building of fisherfolk and aquaculturists.
The CC4FISH Project was implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) with a US$5.4 million grant under its Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF). It is expected to be rolled out in seven Caribbean countries, including Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Dr. Iris Monnereau, Regional Project Coordinator – FAO, said that it is important to implement a project of this nature, noting that as “climate change is becoming increasingly real” it is also important to look at countries and regions that will suffer disastrous impacts.

Government mum on plans by LIAT to stop flying to St. Thomas.
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – May 30th 2017 – Three months after the announcement that LIAT – the Caribbean Airline – will stop flying between St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States Virgin Islands, there has been no statement from the Team Unity Government.
Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, Tourism Minister Hon. Lindsay Grant and Minister of Aviation, Hon, Mark Brantley have been completely silent on the measures they intend to take to provide easier access for nationals and visitors between both destinations.
