In a statement, the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service said it is saddened to inform on the passing of prisons officer Nixon Lokai on Tuesday July.
It said Lokai, who had over 12 years of service, and was last attached to the Carrera Convict Prison, had been ailing for some time with the deadly virus.
Commissioner of Prisons Dennis Pulchan expressed condolences on behalf of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service to the family, friends, batch members and colleagues of officer Lokai.
He also assured that all courtesies will be extended to officer Lokai’s family.
Twenty-three new COVID-19 cases, ten males and 13 females, have been identified by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. On Monday, July 19, the facility conducted 1,144 tests.
There are currently 164 people in isolation.
Since March 2020, confirmed COVID-19 cases have reached 4,292 (2,084 females and 2,208 males), and 48 people have died from the virus.
The number of tests carried out by the lab is 203,301.
As part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, 98,281 people have received first doses of the vaccines. Public health officials have also administered 73,490 second doses. This figure represents 27.1 per cent of the population. (BGIS
