NRP leader slams CCM government over Nevis power outages

CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS, JULY 23rd 2017 – The escalating duration and frequency of power outages in Nevis has evolved from being in the nuisance category to one of full blown anger and disillusionment at a time when the economy is in decline and millions of dollars have been lost in productivity.

“Without warning, simple routine domestic activities like cooking, ironing and washing cannot be taken for granted anymore. In addition, there is now a greater probability of water not running than normal. This is particularly disheartening as we endure these hot summer months when the mercury is pushed well beyond the comfort level. Our family, friends and visitors have no fans and no air conditioners to ease the discomfort,” said Nevis’ Leader of the Opposition and former premier, Hon. Joseph Parry.

Sorry state of health in St. Kitts as Team Unity Government breaches constitution

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 13th 2017 – Former Minister of Health, Hon. Marcella Liburd  has accused the Team Unity Government of Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris of breaching the nation’s constitution with several vacancies in the Ministry of Health.

Section 61 of the St. Kitts and Nevis Constitution states:  “every department of the Government shall be under the supervision of a permanent secretary whose office shall be a public office.”

Ms. Liburd points out that although there are two ministers of health, Hon. Eugene Hamilton and Junior Minister of Health, Sen. Hon. Wendy Phipps, there has been no permanent secretary performing duties for several months.

Chairman of a financial institution resigns; a reflection of Team Unity political interference

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 13TH 2017 – Prominent persons appointed to positions by the Team Unity Government of Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris in government ministries, departments and state-owned corporations are quietly resigning due to frustration and political interference.

Without naming the individual, SKNLP chairman, Hon. Marcella Liburd disclosed Wednesday that the latest resignation is the chairman of a financial institution in which the government has majority shareholding.

PM Harris cannot be trusted on crime figures

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 13TH 2017 –Dr. Terrance Drew, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) caretaker for St. Christopher 8 said Prime Minister Harris in his capacity as Minister of National Security, cannot be trusted when he provides figures on crime for St. Kitts, pointing out previous statements were found to be grossly false.

He noted while Dr. Harris was boasting to the nation that crime was trending downwards, statistics released by Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ian Queeley indicated a near 60 percent increase in crime in 2016 over 2015.

“International Media Raise Deception Issue In Appointment of New Security Adviser for St Kitts & Nevis”.

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 13TH 2017 – Texas-based Caribbean News Now has highlighted the absence to references by St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris to the role played by his newly-appointed national security advisor, retired Major General Stewart Saunders, in the Tivoli Gardens Massacre in 2010, the same year he retired.

“However, left unexplained by Harris were the findings of a commission of inquiry set up in the aftermath of the so-called Tivoli Gardens Massacre in Kingston in 2010, which accused Saunders of dereliction of duty and incompetence,” Caribbean News Now noted.
