Donovan Miller is a Level 4 ECB qualified coach working in London and Essex and has recently been appointed assistant coach for the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots CPL T20 squad –

When we caught up with him, he was busy organising the Chris Gayle Foundation Charity Dinner, to be held on June 6th at the Grange Hotel St Pauls in London. Donovan is heavily involved in the project and coaches and mentors many of their cricketers

The Chris Gayle Dinner – London 2017.

Commenting on his recent appointed he said:

“It’s a really good move personally for me at this time, not just because St. Kitts is such a wonderful place but also to go in an environment where it’s new and exciting, with exciting players there for a franchise, which hasn’t been successful in the competition, and to go there and do some great things, led by head coach Phil Simmons.

It can only be a bonus, for me and my development, it’s something I’m really looking forward to with bringing my ideas there and to learn from Phil himself and some experienced players we have in the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots squad this year.

There’s not much you can tell or say to somebody like Chris Gayle, but the good thing is he’s a really good listener, if you give him any advice and it works he will take it on board. He’s a really easy guy to get on with; he listens to everyone’s opinion and then decides what the best one for the team is.

We only have a short amount of time to get everyone together and it’s a challenge to get all the players to gel; but it’s not a real difficult job because the players there are familiar with this type of environment and they will know exactly what they need to do, so they can do the best for the team. It’s a great opportunity for them, especially the guys that have been there since last season to express their selves and make sure the franchise gets the success they’re destined for at the moment.”

Published: 6 April 2017

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 05, 2017 (SKNIS): On Tuesday (April 04), the Department of Sports in St. Kitts took possession of a package of sports gear including footballs, cricket bats, balls, gloves, and pads that were donated by the Dunnington Cricket Club based in the United Kingdom.

Members of the club are in St. Kitts for a March 29 to April 11, sports tourism tour and presented the gears during a brief ceremony at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium. Club Chairman, Dave Bristow, said that this was the fourth time that members of the cricket organization are visiting St. Kitts and Nevis and they typically use such opportunities to give back to the people of the island for being excellent hosts.

He added that this was the first time he was a part of the tour and was impressed with the Warner Park Cricket Stadium – the premiere sporting facility on St. Kitts and Nevis

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Stanley Knight, thanked the club for its donation and said their visit fits into a sports national framework that is being developed.

The plan includes three pillars: Sports for All, making it accessible to everyone; Sports for Development, using it a tool to develop the national infrastructure; and Sports for Excellence, having athletes succeed in the local, regional and international arena. He said the club’s visit fits into the first two pillars.

“It really is a simple vision that means so much to us and it is because of that vision why it is such a pleasure to have you here,” Mr. Knight said.

The club will also donate sports gear to the Children’s Home in St. Kitts, and the St. Thomas Primary School in Nevis. Their visit was organized by Harwood Williams, a U.K.-based national of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Brazil top FIFA rankings for first time in seven years

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-soccer-fifa-rankings-idUSKBN178111 #

Published: 5 April 2017

Five-times world champions Brazil have returned to what they will consider their rightful place at the top of the FIFA rankings for the first time in seven years.

Brazil have enjoyed a impressive revival since Tite replaced Dunga as their national team coach last year, winning all nine matches they have played under his leadership including eight World Cup qualifiers.

They continued their run in March with a 4-1 win in Uruguay and 3-0 win over Paraguay to become the first side to book their place at next year’s World Cup in Russia with four games to spare.

Brazil, who replaced arch-rivals Argentina at the top, previously led the rankings going into the 2010 World Cup where they were eliminated by the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

Since then, they have suffered a string of embarrassments, with elimination by Paraguay at successive Copa America tournaments in 2011 and 2015 and their infamous 7-1 loss to Germany in the 2014 World Cup semi-final.

Argentina lost their place after last week’s 2-0 defeat in Bolivia which has left them struggling to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Four of the top five teams in the rankings announcement by FIFA on Thursday, are from South America. Chile are fourth, Colombia fifth and Germany sandwiched in between in third.

Egypt are Africa’s best-placed team in 19th while Asia’s top side are 28th-placed Iran.

Top ten rankings (previous month’s places in brackets)

1. Brazil (2)

2. Argentina (1)

3. Germany (3)

4. Chile (4)

5. Colombia (7)

6. France (6)

7. Belgium (5)

8. Portugal (8)

9. Switzerland (9)

10. Spain (10)
