CONSTABLE ZAVIAN HARRIS EARNS BEST RECRUIT AWARD OF COURSE #47 

Basseterre, Saint Kitts, October 09, 2026 (SKNIS): The moment had not quite sunk in as yet on Thursday night (October 08, 2026) for Number 500 Zavian Harris. Harris, along with 27 other members of Course #47, had just participated in the Passing Out Ceremony at the Newtown Playing Field, becoming full-fledged officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force. About a half an hour earlier, he was shaking hands with Acting Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, accepting the award for being the Best Recruit of Course #47.

Growing up, I was taught not to really expect anything. You just do what you’re supposed to do to the best of your ability and whatever happens, happens,” he stated at a post-graduation celebration at the Police Training School. “If you get awarded, you get awarded. But if not, you did your best all the same.”

PRIME MINISTER DREW VISITS CARDIN HOME AS MAJOR REHABILITATION PROJECT COMMENCES 
 

Basseterre, Saint Kitts, July 21, 2026 (SKNIS): Prime Minister and Minister of Health, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, today, July 21, 2026, toured the Cardin Home facility to witness the commencement of a transformative rehabilitation programme that will reshape the century-old institution ahead of its 100th anniversary celebrations in May 2027. 
 

The rehabilitation project is being managed by the Public Works Department with labour provided by His Majesty’s Prison. It represents the latest phase of an ambitious institutional enhancement programme designed to transform the Cardin Home into a modern facility that meets international standards of care.

OPEN CALL FOR PROPOSALS Justice Mural Initiative

Issued by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis

This initiative is being implemented under the Justice Action Coalition Catalytic Fund in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme Multi Country Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.

1.  Background and Reform Context

The Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs is continuing its work to strengthen people- centred justice in Saint Kitts, with a growing focus on community engagement, public awareness, and restorative approaches to justice.

As part of this effort, we are introducing a Justice Mural Initiative- a public art project, designed to translate key justice concepts into something visible, relatable, and meaningful for the wider community.

This mural will serve as a public- facing representation of justice reform, while also creating opportunities for youth engagement, creative expression, and community participation.
