LOCAL PARTICIPANTS UNDERGO TRAINING TO EFFECTIVELY MANAGE THREATS AND RISKS TO GOVERNMENT INFORMATION
Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 30, 2019 (SKNIS):  Fifteen (15) participants from various ministries and departments within the public sector are currently undergoing training to ensure that they are capable of securing government’s information, whether physical or technological, by establishing Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) based on international standards.

The workshop, which is entitled “Certified ISO 27001 Lead Implementer and Internal Controls Architect Training and Certification” commenced on Wednesday, January 30, and aims at developing participant’s competencies in establishing, managing, exercising, and maintaining information security in accordance with international best practices.

CIVIL AVIATION IS SPECIAL TOPIC ON WORKING FOR YOU ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30
Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 29, 2019 (SKNIS): Civil Aviation will be the special topic on the weekly radio and television programme “Working for You” on Wednesday, January 30, 2019. 

The special guests will be Mr. Royston Griffin, Senior Civil Aviation Officer, and Mr. Arthnel Jordon, Civil Aviation Officer, in the Department of Civil Aviation in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The duo will engage the public on the important role and function that the Department of Civil Aviation plays, some of the international standards and practices that St. Kitts and Nevis is held to in civil aviation, aviation security, legislation in the Federation pertaining to civil aviation, and the importance of training to stay abreast in the civil aviation field among other related issues.

POLICE RECRUITS ENCOURAGED TO FORGE MEANINGFUL COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 29, 2019 (SKNIS): The value of positive and meaningful engagement between law enforcement and the community was stressed to the men and women of Course 43 as they start their training to become full-fledged officers in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Osmond Petty, highlighted this as he addressed the 34 recruits on Monday, January 28, 2019, at a ceremony to mark the launch of the new training class. He quoted some findings of the May 2015 Final Report on “The President’s Task Force on 21stCentury Policing” that was done in the United States and adapted them to local circumstances.

STEP to celebrate second anniversary with week of activities

Basseterre, St. KittsJanuary 30, 2019 (S.T.E.P.) — Government agency, the Skills Training Empowerment Programme (STEP), which was launched in February 2017 as a new model to replace the People Employment Programme (PEP) will be celebrating its second anniversary with a week of activities from February 9 to 16.

The celebrations, which will be observed under the theme ‘Showcasing skills, Empowering people for life’, will be launched by Prime Minister, and Minister with responsibility for STEP, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris via a radio broadcast on Sunday February 10. Staff, field supervisors and all trainees of STEP will attend a worship service on the same day at the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Bourryeau at 10:00 am.
