BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 23, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has delivered on its commitment to the construction of a new police station in Sandy Point, with the groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility at Bouncing Hill earlier today, Wednesday, January 23.

In delivering remarks, Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, said the construction of the new police station represents another major investment by his Team Unity administration in the country’s national security framework.

STREET AND FLOOD LIGHT RETROFITTING PROJECT 

SUPPLY OF LED STREET LIGHTS FOR ST. KITTS AND NEVIS 

INVITATION TO BID

 

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis (GSKN) has received financing from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) in an amount equivalent to USD5,792,000 towards the cost of the Street and Flood Light Retrofitting Project and intends to apply a part of the funds to cover eligible payments under the Agreement. Payment by CDB will be made only at the request of GSKN and upon approval by CDB, and will be subject, in all respects, to the terms and conditions of the Loan Agreement. The Loan Agreement prohibits a withdrawal from the Loan Account for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, or for any import of goods, if such payment or import, to the knowledge of CDB, is prohibited by a decision of the United Nations Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations. No party other than GSKN shall derive any rights from the Loan Agreement or have any claim to the proceeds of the Loan.

The Ministry of Sustainable Development, Project Management Unit, now invites sealed bids from eligible and qualified Bidders for the Supply of LED Street Lights for St. Kitts and Nevis.

Consideration will be limited to firms or joint ventures of firms which are legally incorporated or otherwise organised in, and have their principal place of business in an eligible country and are either:

COURT JUDGMENT IN JUDICIAL REVIEW: WINGROVE GEORGE (FORMER SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS) VS. THE SENIOR MAGISTRATE AND THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTION

High Court Judge, His Lordship Justice Eddy Ventose on January 15, 2019, dismissed the case brought by way of Judicial Review by disgraced former Supervisor of Elections, Wingrove George, and also awarded cost to the Government in the matter. Cost will be assessed if not agreed within 21 days.

Justice Ventose’s judgement also meant that the interim injunction by which Mr. George’s bail and conditions were suspended were reinstated, meaning he must once again surrender his passport.

THE LATE IVAN CHARLES BUCHANAN CBE, JP TO RECEIVE OFFICIAL FUNERAL ON MONDAY, JANUARY 28TH, THE DAY HE WOULD HAVE TURNED 98 YEARS OLD

The late Ivan Charles Buchanan CBE, JP, who served as Speaker of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly from 1985 to 1995, will receive an official funeral next week on the day he would have turned 98 years old.

The Thanksgiving Service to celebrate the life and legacy of the longest-serving Speaker of the National Assembly will be held on Monday, January 28th, 2019.  It will take place at the Wesley Methodist Church located on Seaton Street just off of Victoria Road in Basseterre, St. Kitts.  The start time is 10:00am.

“Ivan Buchanan CBE, JP made an indelible imprint on the fabric of our country, rendering outstanding service that spanned more than half a century,” Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris said last week while reflecting on his remarkable life.

Prime Minister Harris also said, “For a defining decade, Ivan Buchanan CBE, JP expertly presided over the esteemed chamber as a generation of trailblazing lawmakers introduced and passed substantive bills that changed the landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis for the better.”

The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis continued, “Our country will forever be inspired by his deep commitment to nation-building, which saw him also make enduring contributions to the fields of education and public health, the public service in general as a Member of the Public Service Commission, as well as to the banking and insurance industry as a Director of the National Bank Group of Companies.”

The Prime Minister’s tribute in writing to the late Ivan Charles Buchanan CBE, JP will be published in the funeral booklet.

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis extends heartfelt condolences, and those of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, to his wife Mrs. Beatrice Buchanan and children.

NATIONAL MEDICAL RECORD SYSTEM IMPORTANT FOR EFFICIENT TRANSITION INTO UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE COVERAGE
Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 23, 2019 (SKNIS):  Chairperson of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Commission for Universal Health Care, Azilla Clarke, said that a National Medical Record System will be implemented as a part of the roll out of the Universal Health Care Coverage to ensure the smooth transfer of information between medical practitioners in the Federation.

Speaking on “Working for You” on January 23, 2019, Ms. Clarke said that this system will be a database of baseline medical information for each citizen or resident.
