ST. KITTS-NEVIS GOVERNMENT BREAKS GROUND FOR $5 MILLION SANDY POINT POLICE STATION
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 23, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris; Deputy Prime Minister, the Honourable Shawn Richards; Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hilroy Brandy, and Fire Chief, Mr. Everette O’Garro today (Wednesday, January 23) symbolically turned the sod, effectively signaling the start of construction on the new multi-purpose Sandy Point Police Station.

Also in attendance to witness the ground-breaking ceremony were Cabinet Ministers the Honourable Vance Amory; the Honourable Ian Patches Liburd; the Honourable Lindsay Grant; the Honourable Eugene Hamilton, and Senator the Honourable Wendy Phipps. Other members of the police High Command as well as senior government officials and residents of Sandy Point were also present for the ceremony.

NEW SANDY POINT POLICE STATION TO BE COMPLETED IN FEBRUARY 2020
Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 23, 2019 (SKNIS): Plans to construct a new home for the emergency services in Sandy Point took another step forward on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, with a ground-breaking ceremony.

Bouncing Hill, Sandy Point, is the location for the two- storey building that will be constructed on an area of 17,920 square feet. Director of the Public Works Department, Cromwell Williams, said that the actual building will be 10,834 square feet in total and will accommodate members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services, and Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department. Space will also be assigned to house the District’s Magistrate Court.

ISLAND CONSTABLES FOR TOURISM PRESCRIBED AREAS BEGIN TRAINING

 

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 23, 2019 (RSCNPF): Training for Island Constables who will work in Tourism Prescribed Areas commenced at the Police Training School on Monday, January 21 with about thirty (30) participants.

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is partnering with the Ministry of Tourism to deliver the training. Persons who successfully complete the month-long course will be sworn-in by the Governor-General. National Security Adviser, Retired Major General Stewart Saunders, said over the next few weeks the participants will learn about the law, how to write reports and take statements. He added that they will be exposed to training in how to improve their observation skills, interacting with people, and learn about the history of St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as the history of the Tourism Industry. Training will also include how to give accurate directions, customer service and conflict resolution.
