Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 26, 2018 (SKNIS): Scores of older persons in St. Kitts gathered at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel on Thursday, October 25, 2018 for a special luncheon in their honour as a part of the month-long activities for the Month of the Older Persons. Ministry of Culture appreciates National Carnival-Development Bank partnership

Basseterre, St. KittsOctober 25, 2018 (DBSKN) — Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Mr Stanley Knight, has said that his ministry appreciates the partnership between the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival and the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis as the bank is in the tier of five top companies in terms of sponsorship of carnival’s events and activities.

“The Carnival Committee is to a large extent an independent committee which then coordinates the St. Kitts Nevis National Carnival,” observed Mr Knight. “As we know, a festival of this magnitude has quite the price tag and as we aspire to have the best national festival, it is important that we invest wisely.”

CMO DISCUSSES PROTECTIVE FACTORS THAT HELP TO REDUCE RISK OF MENTAL ILLNESS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 25, 2018 (SKNIS): Officials from the Ministry of Health in St. Kitts expressed the importance of utilizing protective factors in safeguarding mental health, as related cases are increasing in the federation, especially among the youth.

Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Cherrilyn Crawford, said that there are a number of protective factors that individuals can implement in their lives to lower the risk of developing a mental illness. Some of these protective factors include self-care, good nutrition, exercise, sleep and positive social influences.

“Mental health and physical health go hand in hand. There is no health without good mental health,” she stated, while appearing on the Government’s Weekly Programme, “Working For You”, on October 24.
