Opposition Leader congratulates remarkable teens; highlights his past administration’s youth initiatives

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 17, 2017 – Leader of the Opposition, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has urged youth in St. Kitts and Nevis to strive for excellence and highlighted several social and self-empowerment programmes introduced during his terms as prime minister to foster the entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of autonomy in the youth as a result of facilitating access to materials and funding.

“I expressly encourage the Federation’s youth to strive for excellence in any career field of their choosing. I urge them to make social and financial independence a priority! I implore the young people to push for self-empowerment in an effort to better equip themselves with the tools and knowledge necessary to design and command not only their futures, but also that of our beloved Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Dr. Douglas, as he presented awards at the 7th Special Sitting of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly to honour the Federation’s 25 Most Remarkable Teens for 2017.

Basseterre – A pastor who was on his way home from a gospel concert is dead after he was runover by another vehicle.

Pastor Mark Hodge of Sandy Point was trying to jump start his vehicle when the driver of a car ploughed into him at Needsmust.

One dead in Nevis in third shooting incident in the Federation on Friday

Basseterre/Charlestown, November 17, 2017 – Separate shooting incidents in Dieppe Bay, St. Kitts and Cotton Ground and Gingerland in Nevis, have resulted in the murder of one man, according to multiple sources Friday.

The deadly incident late Friday afternoon occurred in Gingerland, Nevis. The circumstances including the name of the victim are unavailable at this time. The murder will be the Federation’s 20th for 2017.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 16, 2017 – More evidence of corruption within Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris CCM/PLP/PAM government was highlighted Wednesday.

The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher 2 (Central Basseterre) Hon. Marcella Liburd has accused Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mark Brantley, of removing the sister of Olympic icon Kim Collins due to budgetary constraints and then hiring a political activist to replace her at the St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations in New York.
