CBI Developers in St. Kitts and Nevis Supportive of Government’s Reform Agenda

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts and Nevis — A number of developers, whose projects have been approved for the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programme, met several times with Senior Government officials and the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) to discuss the current CBI programme. These meetings were held to discuss a collaborative approach to improving the programme and to discuss the Government’s strategic plan for additional regulations and controls around the real estate option.

During the meeting, all agreed that they must be proactive in promoting the highest standard of the CBI programme, consistent with St. Kitts and Nevis’ platinum brand. It was emphasized during the meetings that no developer or agent had the legal authority to alter the approved prices established under the legislative framework that guides the programme. Developers pledged that any promotional actions on their part, or that of their agents, would reflect the following prices, as per the statutory requirements for real estate:
USD $400,000.00 to qualify for resale after 5 years
USD $200,000.00 to qualify for resale after 7 years

NATIONAL BANK RECORDS ANOTHER EXCELLENT YEAR,

AGM TO BE HELD TODAY, THURSDAY

St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Limited – the largest bank in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) – reports another successful year of operations with a net income after tax of $52.1 million. This represents an increase of $12.6 million or 32% from last year’s reported profit of $39.5 million and an increase of $23.7 million or 83% from the reported profit of $28.4 million in 2016.

The Accounts for the year ended June 30^th, 2018 will be discussed during the Forty-Eighth Annual General Meeting (AGM) of St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Limited, which is scheduled to take place at Park Hyatt St. Kitts today, Thursday, December 20^th, 2018 at 5:00pm.

St. Kitts and Nevis endorses the Global Compact on Migration

New York (December 19, 2018) The Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration was adopted in Marrakesh on December 10^th and then formally adopted in the United Nations General Assembly on December 19^th 2018. St. Kitts and Nevis was represented by Ms. Asha DeSuza, Second Secretary at the Federation’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

The Global Compact is the first multilateral framework that promotes the benefits of international migration and provides guidance and best practices for states on methods to confront its challenges.

ROYAL ST. CHRISTOPHER AND NEVIS POLICE FORCE IS WELL-POSITIONED TO BE EVEN STRONGER IN THE NEW YEAR

The Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, addressed the senior leadership and rank-and-file officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force during this morning’s Commissioner’s Lecture at the police training complex, where the new Director of the Forensic Unit, Mrs. Latoya Lake-Marshall, was introduced to those in attendance.

This morning’s event came on the heels of the Parliament’s passage of the Appropriation (2019) Bill, 2018, which includes the largest budgetary allocation – $79.8 million – ever provided for the Ministry of National Security in the history of St. Kitts and Nevis. This represents a more than five percent increase over 2018.

GOVERNMENT’S EC $ 500 MONTHLY POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROGRAMME

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is pleased to present yet another FIRST in the Federation – a FIRST in the mission to continue the advancement of our people via meaningful poverty alleviation that positively impacts their lives. Before the end of the month of December, the Team Unity Administration will launch the promised $500 per month household support programme for households earning less than $3,000 per month.

A spokesperson for the Government announced that the Poverty Alleviation Programme will be officially launched on Monday, December 24, 2018, in simultaneous public ceremonies on St. Kitts and Nevis, the details of which will be shared in a subsequent announcement. At that ceremony, initial payments by cheque will be made to those applicants to the programme whose application data have been properly verified by the technical and professional staff of the Ministries of Sustainable Development, Social Services, and Finance. A number of collection centres will be set up around the Federation where successful and verified applicants can receive their remittances.
