Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 12, 2018 (SKNIS): Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, encouraged the private sector to step forward to complement government’s efforts to spur economic growth and enhance job creation.This was addressed on Wednesday, December 12, during the Sitting of Parliament for the introduction of the Appropriation (2019) Bill, 2018.

OPENING OF EC$4 MILLION NEW EAST LINE BUS TERMINAL TO IMPROVE EXPERIENCE IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT 

Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 12, 2018 (SKNIS): The new EC$4 million East Line Bus Terminal located on Wellington Road, Basseterre, opened with great fanfare on Tuesday December 11, 2018, fulfilling a promise made by the Minister of Public Infrastructure, the Honourable Ian Patches Liburd, to improve the commuting experience for passengers and drivers travelling from Basseterre to Dieppe Bay via Cayon.

The previous arrangement for buses travelling the East Line Bus Route saw the vehicles lining up on Branch Street and Johnson Street, which brought much frustration for residents of the area. The residents often complained about the hassle in accessing their homes – as the buses were parked directly in front of their gates. The loud music and other noises from the buses, as well as the profanity from some drivers and passengers, were also a constant nuisance. Additionally, commuters were vulnerable to the changing weather elements marked by frequent rainfall, particularly during June to November.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, December 12, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Speaker of the St. Kitts-Nevis National Assembly, the Honourable A. Michael Perkins, has pledged to give priority to the Motion of No Confidence filed against the Team Unity Government of Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris by the Leader of the Opposition.

Under the section, “Announcements by the Speaker” on the Order Paper for the Sitting of the National Assembly today, Wednesday, December 12, 2018, Speaker Perkins noted that he received notice of the Motion upon arrival at his office prior to the start of Parliament. The Motion, according to the Speaker of the House, was filed late Tuesday (December 11, 2018) with the Clerk of the National Assembly.
